Per Saldo Positief, a tribute to the Ron Wichmanhouse

In cooperation with ‘Stichting Mara’ Opus Design developed this unique publication: Per Saldo postief, 15 years Ron Wichmanhuis. At the closing of the Ron Wichmanhouse, shelter for HIV/aidspatients in Rotterdam, this book was presented in memory of the wonderful work and effort done by so many volunteers over the years.

On the 1st of may 2009 the Ron Wichmanhouse had to close its doors after fifteen years. It meant the end of a special and unique meeting place for hiv/aids patients in Rotterdam and surroundings. And also the end of an era marked by intense, personal and engaging stories. Stories of ordinary people who lost their beloved ones to the deadly effects of aids. Stories that told the big change in the ninetees, when aids instead of a death sentence, became a chronicle disease. Stories of people who gave their onconditional support to either relatives or complete strangers wtih hiv/aids. Stories about love, lonelyness, fear, guilt. Beautiful stories, stories that make sence, charming or choking as they could be. Touching, moving and absolutely connecting.

Per Saldo Positief is an overview of 15 years Ron Wichmanhouse. The book contains, apart from the history of the house, interviews and reports with people involved in hiv/aids issues in Rotterdam, showing patiënt, specialist, nurse, therapist, volunteer… Their stories are connected with hiv/aids, but they can also be considered as universal stories about meaning, faith, love, guilt, fear and trust. A must for anyone who, either on a professional or on a personal level, moves on the cutting edge between life and death, disease and health.

The book is written with tremendous dedication by Helene de Bruin and illustrated with a series of wonderful pictures done by Marcel de Buck and Rafaël Philippen.
